From Injury to Victory: Cheltenham Lawyer Overcomes Odds to Finish 105km Ultra
Di Kemple, Senior Associate Solicitor in our Family Team, recently triumphed in the 105km Beacons Way Ultra trail race. She finally completed the course after two previous attempts ended in disappointment. Di crossed the finish line in 21 hours and four minutes, expressing immense relief after her long journey.
Di has shown extreme courage and tenacity battling through serious injury in 2022 and being timed out during the 2023 race due to harsh weather. This year, despite lingering doubts and challenging training conditions, she remained focused and calm at the start line.
The race itself was a more positive experience, with better weather and more runners. Di overcame early doubts by focusing on the stunning scenery, particularly a memorable moment at sunset around 45 miles into the course.
Di’s advice for anyone considering getting into running, whether for mental health or fitness, is simply to “Go out and do it.”
She adds, “You can start gently with walk/run programs like Couch to 5K, and build it up, or you can do something like a Park Run. It doesn't always have to be such a long distance. I find when you've got something to train for, a goal to focus on, it gets you out when you don’t feel like it. For me there really is nothing like running.”
Her friends at Hughes Paddison could not be prouder of Di and her tremendous effort in overcoming adversity and completing this gruelling Ultra Marathon. From all of us – massive congratulations, you’re an inspiration to us all.
